Consultation Process

The consulatation process for the development of Strategic Plan 2005 - 2010 was guided by the Strategic Plan Steering Committee and its Project team.  It involved extensive discussion with staff, management, young people and parents, volunteers and external stakeholders:
  • Staff Focus Groups - 9, involving over 100 staff;
  • Volunteer Focus Groups - 3, involving over 20 volunteers;
  • Client Focus Groups - 5, involving over 50 young people and parents;
  • Board members;
  • External Stakeholders - over 20 questionnaires and interviews.

Each group was asked about MacKillop Family Services' Strengths and Weaknesses, the Opportunities and Threats they perceived, and then given a chance to express their vision of the future for MacKillop Family Services.  Particularly significant was the involvement of the CREATE Foundation in consulting with young people from education and out of home care services in discussions about the organisation's future work.  The Project Team also reviewed information from the Excellence Framework Self Assessment and the Organisation Climate Survey undertaken in 2004, each of which invloved more than 150 staff.

The feedback from these processes was incorporated into a Discussion Paper which identified five emerging themes.  This Paper was distributed to all staff, Board and Steering Committee members, and volunteers who were involved in the first round of focus groups.  Four Discussion Paper Workshops were attended by some 45 interested staff and volunteers to refine the five themes described in the Paper and develop the Strategic Plan.

Expanded meetings of the Steering Committee, involving a wider group of Board Members and Program Managers, were held to discuss and shape the final draft of the Strategic Plan.  Two further meetings with managers and program representitives then shaped the development of an Operating Plan.
