Thank you for thinking about naming MacKillop Family Services in your Will. Your gift will make the difference to children and families in need in the future.

Wills don’t need to be complicated; they do, however, require some specific wording.

As a guide, the following wording can be used. You may wish to take this to your legal advisor, or simply read it so you’re familiar with the “legal-ese” terminology.

“I give and bequeath (the amount, a percentage r residue of the estate, or works of art, shares, furniture and effects) to MacKillop Family Services, Level 1,123 Paisley St, Footscray, Victoria, Australia, for general purposes* and I declare that the receipt of the Treasurer or proper officer of MacKillop Family Services shall be sufficient discharge for my Executor(s).”

* An insertion can be made at this point if you wish the bequest to be used for a specific, eg: education services for young people or foster care for children, or to a program or services.

Whichever wording you use, it’s also important to ensure the following clause is inserted:

“If at my death any charity named as a beneficiary in this Will or any Codicil hereto has changed its name or amalgamated with or transferred its assets to another body then my Executors shall give effect to any gift made to such charity as if it had been made (in the first case) to the body in its changed name or (in the second place) to the body which results from such amalgamation or to which such transfer has been made.”
