MacKillop Family Services - Celebrating 20 years MacKillop Family Services - Celebrating 20 years

As we celebrate 20 years as MacKillop Family Services, we reflect on the work of our founding congregations, who have been supporting vulnerable communities for over 150 years, and look forward to the future in a spirit of justice and hope.

Our Founding Story

When the Sisters of Mercy, the Christian Brothers and the Sisters of St Joseph came together in 1997, they faced significant challenges to form MacKillop Family Services. Their determination to build a shared vision for the future is a story of courage, trust and hope.

More than 150 years ago, the Sisters of Mercy, the Christian Brothers and the Sisters of St Joseph commenced their work in Victoria, establishing homes for children who were orphaned, destitute or neglected and for mothers who were in need of care and support.

In the 1970s, the Sisters of St Joseph began to focus on providing in-home family services, becoming the first congregation in Victoria to move from institutionalised care to early intervention support.

In 1997, the three founding congregations came together to form MacKillop Family Services. Today, the services we offer reflect the focus of these congregations as we seek to transform lives in a spirit of justice and hope.
