Aboriginal Other Home Care - South West WA

MacKillop is working with Woolkabunning Kiaka to support Noongar children in care. The partnership introduces the notion of ‘other home care’, an alternative to foster care and youth residential homes that provides culturally-appropriate care to Aboriginal children and young people and nurtures their connection to their heritage and their land.

Based at Roelands Village, a former Churches of Christ Mission for the Stolen Generation, the partnership sees Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children cared for on-site by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander carers.

The below video describes how the model is providing a culturally safe place for Aboriginal children to be cared for when they are unable to live with their parents.
