Behind the Fašade exhibition

Visual artist Michael Kluge has captured some unique buildings in the City of Port Phillip, including the iconic Chapel in MacKillop Family Services' South Melbourne office.

Michael Kluge's exhibition, Behind the Fašade, documents some unique buildings in the City of Port Phillip.

Michael Kluge's exhibition, Behind the Façade, provides insights into what lies behind some of the special buildings in Melbourne's City of Port Phillip.

The images explore the interiors of some landmark buildings, as well as some less familiar and obscure ones, capturing some of the distinctive details.

The Chapel was built in 1905, an addition to what was at the time, St Vincent de Pauls' Boys' Orphanage, and is now home to MacKillop Family Services. It was designed by prominent church architects Kempson and Connolly whose work can be seen around Melbourne's churches and presbyteries, including St Kilda's Sacred Heart Church.

The Chapel features stained glass windows by William Montgomery who brought the latest European designs to Melbourne in the 1800s and made it the leading centre of stained glass in the Southern Hemisphere.
