MacKillop Family Services in NSW continues to expand with St Joseph’s Cowper – a ministry of the Sisters of Mercy in Australia and Papua New Guinea – joining MacKillop Family Services on 1 October 2017. St Joseph’s Cowper is based in the NSW north-coast town of Grafton.

“We are delighted to welcome the St Joseph’s Cowper team to MacKillop Family Services, following on from the transition of the two Josephite ministries, Good Grief and MacKillop Rural Community Services, in July this year”, said Robyn Miller, CEO.

“As we welcome these ministries into MacKillop, we are reminded of the trust placed in us by our founding congregations to continue their mission and ethos through these services.”

St Joseph’s Cowper has been a valued part of the Cowper and Grafton area of NSW for more than 100 years. It is well known in its local community for delivering high quality support to children and young people through its foster and residential care, tutor and mentoring educational services and community programs.

Our shared heritage through the Sisters of Mercy drives our commitment to support children, young people and adults to live to their full potential, and to deliver services in the areas where the need is greatest. All St Joseph’s Cowper programs and services will now be complemented by training in the Sanctuary Model.

The transition of St Joseph’s Cowper provides MacKillop Family Services with the opportunity to expand the support provided to clients and foster carers, and increase the positive outcomes of our work through shared skills, resources and knowledge.

Maryanne Jacobs, State Director of NSW welcomes the addition of St Joseph’s Cowper to the NSW services of MacKillop. The work in NSW has expanded considerably and Naomi Burke, who is based in Grafton and joins us from St Joseph’s Cowper, will become District Manager Northern NSW and become part of the NSW Management team. Naomi will report through to Jon Brew in the newly formed role of Regional Manager with responsibility for the Northern NSW programs as well as Metro Sydney programs.

If you live in the Grafton area and you are interested in becoming a foster carer, please call our Foster Care Enquiry Hotline on 1300 791 677 or visit mackillop.org.au/fostercare.
