Evaluation Network Symposium (2014)

The 2014 Evaluation Network symposium explored the topic of 'Collective Impact: Frameworks to Practice' focusing on how to develop and apply collective impact frameworks to program design and evaluation.

In December 2014, MacKillop hosted the annual Evaluation Network forum.

A joint project of MacKillop, Good Shepherd Youth and Family Service, Wesley Mission Victoria and the Evaluation Network, the forum examined Collective Impact.

Collective impact has been described as the commitment of a group of individual agencies to solve a specific social problem (Kania and Kramer, 2011).

The forum heard from Professor Jo Barraket, Dr Lauren Costello, Micaela Cronin and Michelle Lucas from a range of perspectives on collective impacts.

Speakers examined the necessary elements of collective impact, including a common agenda, shared measurement, mutually reinforcing activities, communication and backbone support. Speakers also discussed the importance of having inspirational leadership and a flexible and innovative workforce. The difficulties of measuring impact were also discussed as was the need for agreement on measures of success. Speakers agreed engaging with community and empowerment was critical to the success of any collective approach.
