- range from newborn babies to 18-year-olds
- cannot live with their own family
- need a stable, loving home environment
- may meed care for a few days, weeks, months or even years
- may come into care by themselves or with their siblings
- come from diverse cultural backgrounds
- have different strengths, experiences, needs and personalities
MacKillop recognises the valuable role of our foster carers, and we help them provide the best care they can for their foster child. We offer a range of ongoing supports, so our carers are never alone.
Support for carers in Victoria includes:
- comprehensive and flexible training courses
- ongoing support from a designated case worker
- access to a team of specialists
- an after-hours call service
- helping you plan your foster child’s care
- access to respite care for your foster child when you need a break
- links to other MacKillop foster carers in your area
- MacKillop newsletters with information and resources for foster carers
