Implementing Sanctuary in your organisation

The implementation of The Sanctuary Model in your organisation involves a combination of training and consultation adapted to your context.

Sanctuary has helped us to create a unique space where our staff and the people we work with feel safe, heard and able to voice

See Learn Sanctuary for a description of some of the ways, other than full implementation, that your organisation can benefit from professional learning about the Sanctuary Model.

Full Sanctuary implementation

The Australian faculty of the Sanctuary Institute supports your organisation through a series of steps, which progressively align the practices, attitudes and philosophies of Sanctuary’s trauma-informed approach with those of your organisation.

  1. Diagnostic Assessment
The process of implementation begins with a diagnostic assessment of your organisation. This assessment typically involves a two day on-site observation and interview process. This is used to generate a report outlining your organisation’s strengths and weaknesses against 11 domains. These domains align with the seven Sanctuary Commitments and the four components of S.E.L.F.
  2. The Five Day Training
The second step of the implementation process involves intensive training of your organisation’s identified leadership at a five day training session. During the training, participants will receive an in-depth understanding of the components and tools of The Sanctuary Model. The training will also provide the opportunity for attendees to work with our highly-skilled consultants to apply Sanctuary’s concepts and tools to the specific settings in which you will be implementing the model.
  3. On-site Consultation
Our expert consultants will be on-hand to assist you to begin rolling out the Sanctuary Model across your organisation. They will assist you with strategies and tips on how to implement Sanctuary into your organisational culture and disseminate the concepts of the Sanctuary tool kit, seven Sanctuary Commitments and S.E.L.F. framework.
  4. Phone Consultation
Our consultants will also be available to make sure your implementation remains on track via a series of scheduled phone consultation sessions. In these sessions, we will ensure implementation goals are being met, assist you with trouble shooting and answer any questions you may have.
  5. Guides and Manuals
You receive core manuals to support the implementation of The Sanctuary Model.
