What is Vicarious Trauma?

Vicarious trauma is a common occupational challenge for professionals in child and family services, aged care, community services, and other caring roles. It occurs when repeated exposure to the trauma of others leads to:

  • Emotional distress and dissatisfaction
  • Feelings of hopelessness
  • Mental and physical health problems

If left unaddressed, vicarious trauma can affect staff psychologically, physically, socially, spiritually, and professionally.

An enjoyable, practical and informative workshop. Useful for the team to grow together in creating a healthy culture. It makes me want to do all the training. I also see a lot utility for clients, modelling safety plans and helping them become curious about creating their own
