Often the young people in our service display social and/or emotional behaviours that are challenging and a mainstream setting is not able to cater for their individual learning and wellbeing needs.
At the MacKillop School in Geelong we provide a trauma-informed learning environment and staff are able to develop relationships with young people that are focussed on meeting their individual needs – academic, social and emotional.
We believe that young people are able to learn when they feel safe and that strong relationships create a safe environment.
What we can offer:
- a flexible learning program
- individual or small group learning support
- wellbeing support
- internal or external referrals to access specialist support services
- alternative programs to develop school readiness (on-site and off-site available)
- support to access educational pathways.
Who is eligible?
This program currently caters for young people from Foundation to Year 10.
We are in the process of applying for registration to deliver the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning. When this is finalised it will allow us to extend our offering to Year 11 and Year 12.
How to access this service:
Young people are referred to the program by their host school, the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (DEECD) or a mental health service.
