Central West Play

Posted on 26 Feb 2014

Maribyrnong City Council in partnership with MacKillop Family Services and Central West has introduced Central West Play, a free facilitated playgroup at Central West shopping centre in Braybrook.

The MacKillop Family Services facilitated playgroup runs every Tuesday between 10am – 12pm during school terms and can be accessed by families with children aged five and under.

“Central West Play enables local families to access free educational play and information on important Early Years services in an accessible location. This vital service aims to support families within the community and provide innovative and culturally appropriate parent education,” said Cr Grant Miles, Mayor of the City of Maribyrnong.

The project builds on the success of the Bilingual Story Time program, by offering the community a flexible outreach model of children’s activities catering to busy families or those with complex needs.

“By situating the playgroup within Central West Shopping Centre, we are able to welcome families who, for a variety of reasons, are not able to access other playgroups. This allows children to experience vital learning through play and enables parents to socialise, create friendships and learn more about local services,” said Micaela Cronin, CEO of MacKillop Family Services.

Since the projects inception in October the playgroup has already received a positive response from the community with as many as 15 families attending per session.

“Central West is delighted to have this vital community service within our centre to enhance our communities wellbeing", said Clare Carlyon, Senior Marketing Manger – Victoria, Jones Lang LaSalle.
