Cheltenham family fosters 21 local children

Posted on 11 Feb 2015

Cheltenham residents Caroline and Brian Jones have opened their home and fostered more than 21 different children over the past six years. They are delighted to currently care for a teenage girl, along with their own two-year-old child Kynan.

The couple are urging more people to break the mould and consider foster caring with MacKillop Family Services in 2015.

“Foster caring has been an incredible experience,” Caroline says. “Plus it will have a positive impact on our son as he grows up - he’ll  be able to empathise and help others who haven’t had the same opportunities.”

Caroline and Brian are a busy couple, owning and operating a Jetts gym, an insurance brokerage firm, a bill comparison service, an online vegan directory and are also ultra-marathon runners. Despite busy scheduled they are still able to dedicate time to young people in need.

“It’s a joy to know that we are having an impact on them. I hope they feel inspired to achieve something in life, whether it be a sporting feat, going to university, or finding their true love and starting their own wonderful family,” she says.

There is currently an urgent need for more foster carers across Cheltenham and the greater Bayside region, with many local kids being placed in inappropriate accommodation as a result.

MacKillop foster carers come in all shapes and sizes, they have varied backgrounds, lifestyles and family situations. But all share a passion for improving the lives of children and young people.

MacKillop provides all foster carers with ongoing support, training and regular breaks.
