Eden residents are a family of foster carers

Posted on 5 Mar 2015

Local Eden residents Maryanne and Craig Griffiths have been foster carers for four years, and over that time have cared for a special little girl. They plan to take on more foster children when the time is right.

The couple is appealing for more people to break the mould and consider long-term foster caring with MacKillop Family Services.

“I grew up in a home with violence and mistreatment. I wanted to provide a home that is nurturing and can bring out the best in these kids”, said Maryanne.

There is currently an urgent need for more foster carers across the Sapphire Coast region, with many local kids being placed in inappropriate accommodation as a result.

“I have a lot of friends who ask me for advice about being a foster carer and I always say ‘Go for it!’. It can be frustrating, you need patience and compassion, but it is so rewarding.”

MacKillop foster carers have varied backgrounds, lifestyles and family situations. But all share a passion for improving the lives of children and young people.

MacKillop provides all foster carers with ongoing support, training and regular breaks.
