What are family support services?

Every family should be able to access support when they need it. If your family is experiencing challenges impacting the wellbeing of children or young people, our family support services can assist.

Types of family support services

Early intervention programs

Early intervention programs help equip parents and families with the tools they need to prevent family crises and maintain stability so that families can stay in united and connected. This could include parenting education programs to build parental capacity, and skill-building workshops focussed on strengthening family relationships, to emotional support and counselling to help improve child development and wellbeing.

Parenting courses and support groups

Parenting courses build confidence and stronger family relationships through practical workshops. Our services help parents develop behaviour management skills, improve communication, and deepen child–parent connections. Parent support groups expand networks, resources, and connections with like-minded parents. We provide a safe space to reflect on parenting styles and learn new ways to handle challenging situations.

Intensive family support

When some families face complex challenges, more intensive could be required. Our intensive family support programs work closely with each family to address and support their unique needs and circumstances.

Outreach family support

Healthy home environments are crucial to family stability and some of our family support services provide outreach visits which offer practical help with challenges including behaviour, creating positive structures such, and strengthening parent confidence.

Practical support and community connection

Our family support services can also link families to practical assistance programs for access to community services such as childcare and therapeutic support. Community-centred services for families can build connections with groups and help to foster a sense of belonging.

How family support services help families thrive

Our family services address challenges in a non-judgemental, evidence based environment. Programs like community support, in-home visits and parent education prioritise and empower families and equip parents with the tools they need to feel confident. By taking the step to reach out to these services, families can reduce stress in the home environment and improve outcomes for children.

Why families seek support

Families may reach out for support for many reasons, often during unexpected or challenging times. Services for families are available if you’re experiencing difficulties such as relationship issues, financial stress, or parenting challenges. These services offer non-judgemental guidance in a confidential setting, where you can feel comfortable and safe.

Family stress and life changes

Stress can impact families in unforeseeable ways. Events like separation, bereavement or illness can cause family instability, especially if emotional strain is affecting the caregivers. These life changes may mean that adults are unable to provide adequate care for children as they navigate new and difficult circumstances.

Parenting challenges

Parenting challenges can affect anyone with children – from parents of newborns to longtime caregivers. When confidence or the ability to manage one’s own behaviour is impacted, family services offer support to parents. These programs seek to help build the tools needed to regain control, through services such as mentoring.
