The Aboriginal Families as Teachers program is a program for Aboriginal families to create solid learning experiences for their children 0-5 years old. This is done by:
- Supporting the children’s positive experience with culture and strengthening their identity so that our kids feel strong and proud
- Creating culturally safe learning areas in the home
- Promoting early literacy and numeracy
- Supporting the healthy development of our kids
- Supporting children with transition to school and accessing other forms of early childhood education such as playgroup and preschool.
The program is led by an Aboriginal facilitator and is funded by the NSW Department of Education.
Who can access this service
This service is available to Indigenous Families with children 0-5 years in:
- Brewarrina and outreaching to Weilmoringle and Goodooga NSW
- Lightning Ridge and outreaching to Collarenebri NSW.
How to access this service
Self referral, family or community/agency referral.
Amy’s shown deep commitment to giving her daughter the cultural education that she enjoyed as a child. She’s heavily involved in her daughter’s early education at playgroup and during library sessions. It’s a joy to see the excitement on Victoria’s face when her mum joins her in play and learning activities.
