Child FIRST supports at-risk families to manage significant parenting problems that may be affecting their child’s development. Some of these issues can include:

  • family conflict and/or breakdown
  • physical or mental illness
  • substance abuse
  • disability
  • social or economic disadvantage
  • isolation and lack of connection to their local community.

Some families may be given advice and information whereas others may require further assessment. Referral to a local Integrated Family Service organisation may be involved to provide support with the family’s situation.

MacKillop manages Child FIRST in the Brimbank-Melton region. We are also a part of the Alliance that delivers Child FIRST in western metropolitan Melbourne. We work in partnership with a range of community services as well as the Department of Health and Human Services to link families to the relevant services they need.

The service is available for families with children aged up to 17 years, including those with unborn children.

Please note this is not a disability support service. MacKillop provides NDIS Support Coordination for people with an approved NDIS support plan.
