Fiona and her daughter Lucy relocated to Darwin seeking stability and better support.
Early in 2025, Fiona made the tough decision to relocate from her remote community to access more stable housing and better support for her daughter Lucy, who lives with a range of complex and rare health conditions. Once they were settled in Darwin, Fiona and Lucy connected with MacKillop Family Services, who helped stabilise the family and build a foundation for their long-term wellbeing. Lucy now has a dedicated care team funded through the NDIS.
From the beginning, MacKillop focused on building trust and creating a strong support system for Lucy* and Fiona*. The team secured a long-term room in a local accommodation service, giving the family access to case management and a pathway to transitional housing. Fiona was overjoyed when she received the news and couldn’t wait to move in.
MacKillop has supported Lucy’s enrolment in a local preschool for children with additional needs, set to begin next year.
Fiona is excited about the opportunity to return to work once Lucy starts school. The family was linked into a local playgroup for children with complex needs, helping Lucy build social connections and giving Fiona a network of peer support.
