Substance Abuse and Family Support Service

The Substance Abuse Family Support (SAFS) service provides services to families where parental/carer substance misuse is impacting on family function and child safety.

The SAFS range of services include home-based outreach counselling, assistance, advocacy and network development

What we can offer:

  • assistance to families with Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) counselling, relapse prevention, harm minimisation and linkages to other AOD services and support networks
  • assistance to families to create a safe and stable environment for their children
  • assistance to families to enhance their relationships, parenting skills, life skills, personal development and connection to other community supports.

Who is eligible?

Families where at least one adult member has an identified problematic substance abuse issue placing children (less than 18 years of age) at risk.

The adult family member(s) acknowledges that their substance use impacts on the wellbeing of their children and that they are ready to make changes.

We cover the Victorian local government areas of:

  • Maribyrnong
  • Melbourne
  • Moonee Valley
  • Brimbank
  • Hobsons Bay
  • Wyndam
  • Melton

How to access this service:

Referrals can be made by either the family or involved professionals. For enquiries and referrals please contact the SAFS Intake Worker on (03) 9680 8444 during business hours.
