Youth Mentor (Community Programs)

Mentoring involves direct one-to-one support with individual young people with a disability to maximise their independence, confidence and inclusion in their local community. 

This role is diverse and dependent on the identified goals for a young person.

It may include:

  • helping with self-care and education
  • assisting with access to recreational activities
  • providing friendship and/or respite for the family.

An understanding of the developmental needs of young people with a disability is an important attribute for this position.

MacKillop Volunteers are considered to be an integral part of our team and compliment the support provided by staff.

Our volunteers are provided with supervision and support, specific guidance when required as well as ongoing training.

Key criteria for all MacKillop volunteer positions include:

  • an ability to make a commitment and work as part of a team
  • a willingness to attend supervision and training
  • specific skills according to program needs
  • a commitment to the policies and values of MacKillop
  • willingness to undergo a Police Check and obtain a Working with Children Check.
