Every day, foster carers provide safe, stable and nurturing homes for children and young people who cannot live with their families.
They open their hearts, share their lives, and create opportunities for children to feel safe, connected and cared for. This Foster Care Week, we're inviting communities across Victoria, New South Wales and Western Australia to join us in saying something simple, but important:
Thank you... thank you for continuing to show up and for the difference you make every day.
Why foster carers matter
Foster carers are the backbone of the child protection system. They provide stability, care and belonging for children and young people during some of the most challenging periods of their lives.
But fostering is not always easy.
Children entering care often have increasingly complex needs, while foster carers are balancing emotional, practical and financial pressures in their own lives. Many carers describe fostering as deeply meaningful, but also demanding.
When foster carers feel supported and stay in their role, children are more likely to experience stable, secure homes and stronger long-term outcomes. When carers leave, children can face disruption, uncertainty and multiple placement changes.
That is why Foster Care Week isn't just about celebrating carers. It's about recognising the vital role they play and helping them feel valued, supported and connected.
How you can get involved
At MacKillop, we want foster carers to know they are not alone. We are committed to walking alongside them with practical support, guidance and genuine care.
This Foster Care Week, we're encouraging communities to stand alongside carers too. MacKillop are inviting individuals, families, community groups, schools, businesses, local councils and organisations to share a message of appreciation for foster carers.

Leave a message of thanks
Our Thank You Wall is a place where community members can share written messages, photos, short videos, artwork or creative expressions of thanks. Whether you share a message, tell someone about fostering, or simply take a moment to recognise the contribution of a foster carer in your community, your support matters.
Join us in celebrating
the incredible people who continue to show up, every day, for children and young people.
