Through storytelling and culture, our community can support children and young people in care to explore who they are.
Our story
MacKillop Family Services works for the rights of all children to be free to enjoy their childhood in safe and loving homes, where they are nurtured and have a sense of belonging and cultural identity. We support disadvantaged and at-risk children, young people and families throughout Australia including:
- early intervention programs for over 8,000 at-risk families to help them stay together
- out of home care for over 2,000 children unable to live with their birth family
- education services to over 500 students
- disability services and support to over 400 families with disability services
- supports approximately 100 homeless young people
In Barwon, our out of home care program is responsible for the care of 24 young people across seven residential care homes, and 80 children and young people in foster care. To support these vulnerable children to heal and thrive, we offer a range of therapeutic programs specifically designed to support children and young people in care including Seasons for Growth, Healing Matters, and Therapeutic Life Story Work.

Imma's story
Imma’s need to care for children and help give them better lives is driven by her experiences in fleeing her home in Burrundi as a refugee and making her way via a refugee camp to New Zealand more than 20 years ago.
