Looking ahead to Care Day

Care Day is the world’s biggest celebration of children and young people with care experience.

Since starting in the UK in 2015, Care Day has steadily grown to become a worldwide celebration for everyone who has a lived care experience, past or present. Care experience includes children and young people who are or were cared for by family members; by foster carers; or children and young people from residential homes.

Care Day 2020 was celebrated in Australia for the first time this year, led by the Create Foundation. Celebrated on Friday 21 February, MacKillop supported the initiative on our social media platforms. This year, we supported the initiative by sharing three stories on why we think Care Day is important and why we love working with young people with care experience - from staff who work in residential care and Tayla, who grew up in care from the age of 12.

Care Day helps to break the stigma around being in care by showing children and young people with a care experience that they're supported, and by sharing their achievements with the wider community. We’d love for you and the children in care to be involved in Care Day next year.

We’ll be in touch at the end of the year to discuss how we can use this day as a platform to share the voice of children in care.
